About the products

Where are your products produced?

The largest part of our range is produced in Rosenau on the edge of the Limestone Alps - Austria - and is also shipped from here. You can find detailed information about where our products originate on the respective product page!

What does “noble” mean in your products?

We attach the word “precious” to products that have precious veneers. A Precious HDF board is a high-density fiberboard (HDF) that is covered with high-quality veneers on both sides.

What exactly does “precious veneer” mean?

Fine veneers are veneers that are cut from the trunk like with a cucumber slicer (= knife veneers). The resulting veneers are only between 0.6 and 0.9 mm thick and have the highest surface quality. This means that a lot more surface area can be produced from a trunk of high-quality wood than if solid wood boards were produced, and veneered boards are correspondingly cheaper.

My Plywood is warped, what should I do?

Although we define the highest quality criteria when selecting the wood, Plywood can still warp. Unfortunately, this is the nature of plywood.

The most important thing to remember is to unpack the panels immediately upon arrival and store them weighted down. Ideally, give the Plywood 1-2 weeks to acclimatize, this will reduce the amount of warping. You can also lightly (!) moisten the plates on the concave (outside) side with water and store them again with weight.

Why is Plywood prone to warping?

One could fill entire books on this question, but in brief:

Plywood is usually made from peeled veneer. When producing peeled veneers, logs are clamped and rotated around their own axis. During the rotation, a knife moves to the trunk and “peels” the trunk. This gives the veneer a natural curvature. When the veneers are then glued together in layers, the veneers should ideally be rotated - so that the curved side points upwards once, the curved side of the next veneer points downwards, and so on.

But plywood usually has an odd number of layers, otherwise the bottom and top would have different grain directions. So there is always an inequality in tension.

Other very important factors for any delay are temperature differences and humidity. If there are large fluctuations (e.g. during transport and storage location), the layers of plywood may expand or contract at different rates.

How should I store the wooden panels?

The wooden panels should definitely be stored flat, in an environment with as constant temperature and humidity as possible. Strong fluctuations in temperature and humidity can lead to warping!

"We also recommend weighting the products to additionally prevent warping."

It should be noted that the color of wood can change due to UV radiation (= sunlight). This natural process is particularly noticeable when a panel is only partially exposed to sunlight, as that part may then differ in color.

Are your records already finished?

Yes! We also have the Precious HDF panels available in lacquered variants in stock.

What does "HDF" mean?

HDF stands for High Density Fibre boards, or also high-density fiberboards. Often referred to as hard fiberboards, these boards are made from fine wood fibers that are first mixed with water and then pressed into a board under heat and pressure (= screen printing boards). This process is carried out for our boards entirely without glue!

HDF boards have the property of being very dense, warp-free, and with a raw weight of about 1,000 kg/m³, very heavy.

At WOOD4PROS, you can get HDF boards either in raw form or pressed with premium veneers as Precious HDF panels!

What exactly is Smoothy Ply made of?

SmoothyPly, a development from Almbusch, consists of a high-purity cellulose fiberboard that can be veneered on both sides with premium veneers.

The cellulose boards are made of 100% wood, produced in Germany, and offer significant advantages for laser cutting. On one hand, the boards are very lightweight, have a low density, and can therefore be cut very easily and almost without smoke! Additionally, SmoothyPly is shape-stable and break-resistant!
